In 2000, company founder, Mona L. Hirata-Sung, started with real life experience handling weddings and events at a boutique hotel in beautiful Waikiki, Hawaii. With a passion for service, we at neu events have built upon that foundation and have crafted our approach to event planning based on our guiding set of values – working hard for our clients, bearing their best interests in mind, and standing by ethical principles.

Essentially, we look at each wedding and event and think to ourselves, “if this were our best friend’s special occasion or event, and possessing the industry knowledge and skills that we have honed, how can we help, giving as much as we possibly can, so that they can have the very best event imaginable?”

For us, “it’s personal.” Your success is our success, and nothing could make us happier than to see you achieve your goals.

Hundreds of weddings and events later and after teaching wedding planning to aspiring planners, neu events continues to service clients based on the same founding principles and values. We hope to have the opportunity to provide you with our very best, too.

After years of traveling and working abroad, Mona returned to Hawai’i where she launched in 2000 what is now neu events, applying her life experience abroad to servicing both local and international clients. Since then, neu events has become one of leading boutique style wedding and event planning companies. In 2006, Mona was named to Pacific Business News’ "Forty Under 40," an award established to recognize Hawai‘i’s emerging young leaders. With numerous accolades and 100’s of weddings and events under her belt, enjoys sharing her knowledge by lecturing to visiting international students on entrepreneurship and her career field. As owner and planner, Mona makes it a priority to maintain a “big picture” focus on the direction of the company while simultaneously working directly with clients, helping them design and plan a memorable event. Heidi has dedicated her expertise to wedding and event planning with neu events for over a decade. Her portfolio includes personalized services for couples and the coordination of a diverse range of events, spanning from magazine launches and glamorous galas to fundraisers. Before her association with neu events, Heidi gained years of experience working in various industries, managing logistics and marketing at trade shows nationwide. She also managed events of grand scale with concert promoter of the Pacific, Tom Moffatt, on concerts and VIP parties. In addition to her event planning role, Heidi serves as a Marriage and family therapy intern, providing counseling services to keiki, adults, couples, and kupuna. Heidi’s local roots and global experience make her perfectly suited to work with clients from near and far alike. Aileen started as an intern with neu events as a student from the University of Hawaiʻi, studying in the School of Travel Industry Management. After graduation Aileen has since continued to work with neu events whenever they needed a helping hand. Since the end of 2021, she is now a part of the team full time. Aileen has had opportunities to work with different coordinators in the wedding and events industry, learning and gaining experiences and skills at different weddings and events. Getting to work closely alongside with Mona and the couples and clients and then getting to see their vision become a reality is so gratifying. In her free time, she enjoys cooking and baking and spending time with family and friends.

Like Aileen, Deni also started with neu events as an intern before graduating from the School of Travel Industry Management at the University of Hawai`i at Manoa. After graduation, Deni worked at various event planning companies, broadening her experience and honing her skill set working as a lead event planner. After a temporary hiatus from events, Deni has since made her way back to the industry and is now working with neu events once again. Deni is also a travel advisor and owns a small handmade pet accessories business with her sister. She enjoys traveling and spending time with family.

Mona was recommended to us by a friend and we are SO happy that we found her!! She is so professional and knowledgeable and is also SO nice and compassionate. She really cares about her clients and I even feel like she was our mini therapist and would listen to our complaints and try to help us rectify certain situations. Initially we booked her for her day-of coordination services. But 6 months prior to our wedding date, my stress, fears, and anxiety started to kick in and I emailed her asking if we could do the wedding "wrap up" which starts at 3 months before the big day. She was luckily able to add that service on and I quickly realized I should have done that from the start. We had meetings (over zoom) with her to go over what was done and what needed to be done. After every meeting, we got a checklist of things to do which was PERFECT for me. I had all the big things booked, but its the small details and little things that we definitely needed help with. The checklist was great because I knew exactly what needed to be done and when it needed to be done. On the day of, her team was beyond amazing and everything went super smoothly. We had comments from our guests how everything transitioned so nicely and that's all thanks to Mona and her amazing team. Mona, Aileen and the rest of the NEU team exceeded our expectations. I was a very type A bride but Mona's attention to detail, organization and helpful suggestions showed me how a real pro does it.

The biggest issue on our wedding day was some passing rain around the time of the ceremony, but Mona came up with some scheduling pivots on site that helped us find a good solution and everything went off PERFECTLY. Wedding planning is not for the faint of heart but anyone can do it with Mona's help.

Full service planning with her team was the way to go! If only I needed her services again, id hire her all over again in a heartbeat!

Mira, Mona, Aileen and the rest of the wedding planning team was incredible!!! They are truly the top of the top. My husband and I live in California and had very busy lives and the neu team with Mira helped us from afar and truly made our vision come to life. We had an abstract vision of the vibes and feeling we wanted to create our multiple days and events and so the fact- they didn't have a tangible template for our creativity was quite challenging but they understood and captured everything with ease!! She knew exactly how to make the wedding spiritual, mystical, and fun. She truly is forever our favorite Indian auntie!! Mona is thoughtful and organized and was always on-top of everything. Her poise and relationships with vendors and experience was top-notch. We loved working with her. Aileen is amazing and handsdown has a rare talent of balancing patience, organization, and execution. She was truly one-of-a kind person and we love her SO much. The day of staff was so helpful as well.

neu events provided day of coordinator services for our wedding and it could not have gone better :') Our aim was to have a happy, joyful wedding without any of the stereotypical pain and stress you hear about--Mona and Deni understood the assignment and made it happen! From our first inquiry meeting with Mona my fiancé and I were sold. She had a very gentle and supportive nature and listened to all of our plans, ideas, and even lack-of-plans calmly and with a smile. For example, I was a little trepidatious that others (like a professional coordinator) might balk at what we wanted to do (i.e. hand-made paper flowers for centerpieces, chocolate covered fortune cookies for favors) but she encouraged us and made many helpful suggestions which we wound up incorporating into our plans.

We opted for the less expensive service of going with someone on Mona's team vs having Mona herself because we assumed since Mona's great, her team must be too, and we were right! Deni was a true star and angel, she also took our ethos of calm/chill/no panic wedding to heart. Every time we brought up something she had it handled with a smile or with a 'that's no problem', even day of table changes! She was particularly great at the wedding rehearsal where she firmly and kindly herded the cats (groom and bride included) to where we were supposed to be, also reminding us what we had planned (i.e. procession order, lei gifting plan etc). Mona herself also supported us at our hotel with getting ready and making sure we arrived on time and in the right order! There were two additional coordinators who supported Deni during the wedding ceremony and reception who helped make it a flawless event. I didn't see them much which speaks to how they managed everything without interrupting, like highly skilled stagehands.

For anyone seeking a highly professional and stress-reducing wedding coordination service we highly recommend new events, worth every penny!

Mona with NEU Events and her entire team to include Aileen and Heidi were exceptionally organized, professional, attentive, and precise. The days leading up to my son and daughter-in-law's wedding went off without a hiccup due to Mona and her well-orchestrated team.
The day of the wedding had so many moving parts, an outdoor wedding on a beautiful estate, with 150 in attendance, ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, entrance, dance, entertainment, bar, dessert display, coordination of photos and seating it was seamless due to Mona and her team.
